Since validating of CEPA from Jan 1, 2004, CEPA goes smoothly under great support of all departments from Central China and common effort of Governments and people of Hong Kong and Macao.
1, Goods trade
By the end of March, 2006, total value of zero-tariff imports amounted to US$494mln, with a tariff reduction of RMB302mln.
2, Service trade
By the end of May, 2006, Certification Institutes of Hong Kong and Macao approved and issued 1206 certifications of service provider, which mainly in the fields of transport, logistic, distribution, banking, insurance, telecommunication, advertisement, legal service, construction, health service and tourism, etc. Out of which transportation and logistics service played an active role.
In the field of banking, approved by People’s Bank of China, from Feb 25, 2004 and Nov 3, 2004 Hong Kong and Macao’s banks started to operate individual RMB deposit, converting, banking card and remitting. Up till the end of April, 2006, saving deposits of RMB in Hong Kong and Macao amounted to RMB23.02bln.
Individual owned business, by the end of March, 2006, there were 2261 individual owned businesses of Hong Kong and Macao in Mainland with RMB122mln registered capital and 5,111 employers.
3, acceptance or recognition of professionals
At present, Mainland and Hong Kong, Mainland and Macao realized mutual certification in construction, securities, legal service, accounting and health service, etc. Totaling over 1,400 people passed mutual certification and obtained professional qualification.
4, Travels of Mainland Individuals in Hong Kong and Macao
Since implementing of individual travel on Jul 28, 2003, individual travel opened for 44 cities gradually, covering over 200mln people. Up till the end of Jan, 2006, exit-entry department of public security had issued 223,92 visit visas for individual travel in Hong Kong and Macao. In 2005, there were 2,296 Mainland tourists traveled to Hong Kong and Macao, out of which there were 1,088 people went for individual travel, which constituted 47.7% of total tourists’ number of Mainland.
